The west side of my Applehead Island home is all glass and the afternoon sun is brutal. Can automation help?
It can, and it is one of the first things we solve on a lakefront home. We run Lutron shades on the western exposure so they ease down as the sun drops over Lake LBJ, and pair them with Ketra lighting that warms as evening sets in. The great room stays comfortable through the worst of the afternoon glare without you ever touching a switch, and the view comes back the moment the sun is off the water.
What does the lake heat and humidity do to the equipment?
A Hill Country summer is hard on processors and amplifiers left in an attic or an unconditioned closet, and lake humidity only makes it worse. We never put the gear that runs your home in a place that bakes. Racks go in conditioned, ventilated space, so the system that holds your house together is not the first thing to fail in August.
Can you tie the boathouse and dock into the same system as the main house?
Yes. The dock lights, the boathouse, the outdoor cameras, and any outbuildings on the lot fold into the same Savant system as the main house, so the whole property answers to one app. You can light the path to the water for an evening on the dock or confirm the boathouse is buttoned up for the week from the same screen you use indoors.
Do I need permits for this work?
Low-voltage usually does not. Anything touching line-voltage, the panel, or new circuits does, and we pull those permits and coordinate the inspections so you never deal with it. For a new build in Summit Rock or a major Escondido renovation, we fold our drawings into the builder's scope before the walls close.
